Lucha Libre in the Arena Mexico

Mexican Wrestling

Going to the “Lucha Libre” is one of the coolest experiences in Mexico City. If you don’t have a tight schedule, seriously you have to go!

I’ve heard that there are group tours, but I think it’s an event, that if you don’t have a lot of budget, you can go on your own without any problem.

Must-know Lucha Libre

Days

There are shows on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m., on Fridays at 8:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:00 p.m.

Costs

Costs range from $ 32, $ 56 and $ 78 Mexican pesos.

Tickets

You can buy your tickets online or at the Arena box office.

How to get there

You can take a taxi de sitio, Uber or go by car.

The address is Avenida De Las Granjas number 800, in Santa Bárbara, Azcapotzalco.

Metro:

The Metro line that you must take as your main reference to get there is Line 6 (Red), which runs from El Rosario to Martín Carrera, at the Ferrería / Arena Mexico City station.

From the Blue Line of the Metro, you change in Tacuba towards Rosario to Rosario station and you change again in the direction of Martín Carrera and you get off at Ferrería (line 6) ,the Arena is 5 min. walking.

The Fortuna suburban train station is also near the Mexico City Arena. The suburban train goes from Buenavista, in the Cuauhtémoc delegation, to Cuatitlán in the State of Mexico. When you get off you must walk to the Centro Deportivo Ferrocarrilero, the distance is 800 meters

Metrobus:

The Metrobus also has a line that takes you directly to the Mexico City Arena area: Line 6 (El Rosario-Villa de Aragón), at the Tecnoparque / Almeda Norte station, which is a few steps from the Arena Ciudad de Mexico.

Line 6 is also an option if you come from the eastern part of the CDMX or Mexico City.

Get ready with TIME

First of all, check the schedules and days you want to go to the Lucha Libre, (Tuesdays and Fridays) and try to buy your tickets at least a few hours in advance.

Before going to the Arena Mexico, have a good meal or eat something, because inside you will only find a little variety of snacks and well, beer.

Get there at least with one hour in advance to buy your tickets at the Arena Mexico ticket office and grab a good place. You can find resellers outside. Don’t buy them, for your own safety, buy them at the ticket office.

Once inside, if you have trouble finding your place you can ask the people who bring a blue vest to help you and just give them a tip.

Always have fun with caution.

Many people fear going to the Lucha Libre or “luchas” because the area is not very safe, but with caution and doing things right, you have no problem.

Get an Uber or radio taxi “taxi de sitio” directly to the Arena Mexico. Once there the atmosphere is very family-friendly, but remember to have your belongings well kept. Like in all big cities, you have to avoid the pick pockets.

In the Arena it is not allowed to enter with professional cameras, or very large video cameras, but if you take your phone you have no problem.

Remember It’s a fun spectacle, don’t expect a WWA show, it’s better here! Mere Mexican culture, acrobats who do a funny and entertaining show. People love to scream and shout, they get excited and they’re very intense. The place has been an enclosure for years so don’t expect to find very clean bathrooms or comfortable seating. You’re going to have some fun!

And remember to take your “lucha libre” mask, you can find outside lots of styles but if you want to buy one for the show or as a souvenir, here are some options.
