2 days in Mexico city? You have to check it out!
Mexico City is a destination much forgotten by tourists, I understand that it may have a bad reputation due to ignorance, but the reality is that I was born and raised in this city and despite having lived abroad, and traveled to many other cities, it is still my favorite city for its enormous culture and the amount of things it offers, there are more than 130 museums, endless restaurants and bars, many archaeological sites, parks, etc.
So it is definitely a place that should be on your bucket list. Now if you only have a couple of days in this city, you can still give yourself a taste of it.
Here I leave you a small two-day itinerary in Mexico City, or better known today as CDMX.
Day 1
Coyoacán, Paseo de la Reforma y Polanco
Morning
Begin your day with a visit to Coyoacán. Coyoacán is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in the city and without a doubt one of my favorites. You can’t miss its vibrant streets, local markets and the beautiful parks there. If you like art, don’t miss the Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul), which offers a fascinating insight into the life and art of the renowned Mexican artist.
And something that you cannot miss is having a delicious coffee in “El Jarocho” (there are several locations in the center) and some churros for dessert, while you walk through the center of Coyoacán. Here is a complete Guide to Coyoacán with places to eat, shop and visit.

Lunch
Since you are in the area, for lunch, I recommend going to “Los Vegetarianos”, a popular vegetarian restaurant in Coyoacán. They offer a variety of delicious plant-based dishes and Mexican specialties that cater to vegetarian preferences.
If you prefer something non-vegetarian, there are several restaurants in the center such as “Los Danzantes” that are always a guarantee and in most you can find vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Afternoon
Now we will move to the other side of the city to walk along Paseo de la Reforma, one of the most emblematic and beautiful avenues in the city. Reforma is known for its architectural beauty and has prominent places such as the Angel of Independence and the Fountain of “Diana La Cazadora” where you can not stop taking a picture and walking the entire avenue.
Tip: CDMX is a huge city, so like any city you have to take precautions. Stay in places where there are people. Use bags with zippers that are not easy to open, if you use your cell phone or wallet in your pants pockets, I recommend that you do it in the front pockets or use a flat fanny pack inside your shirt. And don’t wear attention-grabbing jewelry. Always be aware of your surroundings.
Evening
I recommend that you explore the Polanco neighborhood, which is very close to Reforma and is known for its exclusive shops, art galleries, and trendy restaurants. There are endless good options, so I recommend that you walk through Mazaryk Street and take a look at all the places there are and enter the one that you fancy the most.
Tip: If you are a taco lover, I recommend you go to “El Califa”, not only does it have a wide variety of delicious tacos such as the famous al pastor tacos, or steak with cheese, but it also has vegan versions, and they are delicious!
Day 2
Zocalo and Roma/Condesa
Morning
Begin your day in the Zócalo, the main square of Mexico City. Visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the largest and oldest cathedrals in the Americas. Explore the National Palace, where you can admire impressive murals by Diego Rivera depicting the history of Mexico.
Have breakfast at the classic “Café de Tacuba” one of the oldest and most prestigious restaurants in this area, order a coffee with milk and some delicious green or red enchiladas, perfect for vegetarians. If you are not a vegetarian, I recommend the enchiladas jarochas

Lunch
For a vegetarian meal, try “Forever Vegano”, a popular vegan restaurant located near the Zócalo. They offer a diverse menu with a Mexican twist, including tacos, enchiladas, and soft drinks.
Another restaurant that I recommend if you are not vegan, is “Sanborns de los Azulejos”, located between Madero street and Cinco de Mayo, this restaurant chain has been a classic for many years, the special thing about this restaurant is that it is located in what is known as the “Palace of the Counts of the Orizaba Valley” a building built in the viceregal era, worth appreciating.
Afternoon
Spend the afternoon exploring the historic center of Mexico City. Visit the Templo Mayor, an archaeological site that shows the ancient Mexica civilization.
Explore the nearby museums, such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes, which houses impressive art exhibitions, and don’t forget to visit the Mexican Post Office, which is located across the street from the Palacio de Bellas Artes. This building is one of the most beautiful and is well worth taking a look at.
Tip: If you want an impressive view of Bellas Artes, I recommend you go to the Sears building in front, go up to the eighth floor where you will find a small cafeteria with a terrace and a spectacular view of the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Evening
End your trip by visiting one of the coolest areas of the city, Roma. This trendy area is known for its bohemian vibe, unique shops, and excellent dining options. One of my favorites is Madre Café, located on Calle de Orizaba, it is pet-friendly and has some super original cocktails.
