The Ex-Hacienda “El Lencero” of Santa Anna in Veracruz

Veracruz, Mexico

Ex Hacienda El Lencero Veracruz

Do you already know one of the former Hacienda “El Lencero”, Santa Anna had in Veracruz? If not, you have to visit this place. It is very close to Xalapa just 12 kms southeast of the
city.

This hacienda was built in 1525, starting as an inn for travelers of that time. Its first owner was Juan Lencero, a soldier of Hernán Cortés and for whom the Hacienda was named.

Some history

The Lencero had several stages, from Posada to sale activities, cattle raising etc, but it was until May 27, 1842 that passes into the hands of one of the most controversial characters in our Mexican history, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, 11 times president of the Republic And a very controversial general.

Thanks to him, the Lencero grew much, in fact Santa Anna was the one who commanded to build the chapel “House of the nuns” to marry Doña Dolores Tostada.

For 1856 the Hacienda passes into the hands of the Supreme Court of Justice as it was seized by the former president along with all his Property by Ignacio Comonfort.

Today is a museum

And now we can find it as a museum with unique pieces of that time, to give us an idea of how they lived in the haciendas years ago.

You can visit the rooms of weapons, games, music, walk in the garden and see the Ducks in the lake.

After visiting the whole museum, you can have a coffee in the picturesque cafeteria that is at the entrance, the truth I recommend a lot.
