One day trip to Whistler from Vancouver
with 3 dogs and a friend lol.
Table of Contents
One of the most popular one day trip or places to visit near Vancouver is Whistler, but some of us do not have that much time, that was my case last week where I had little budget and time, but still, a friend and I decided to go by car to Whistler and just take a break from the rush of the city.
If you can stay for at least one night in a hotel or Airbnb consider that most places check-in is around 4 pm and the check-out at 10 am, so knowing this it is easier to make a schedule where we can fit some activities as much as possible.
This is what I did in a couple of days, but I’m sure it works as a one day trip as well:
Roadtrip with doggos
Rent a car if you don’t have one.
I have the Evo membership and it was way cheaper that renting a car in any of the other companies, I totally recommend it.
Another cheap way to rent a car is through the TURO website.
To get your trip going from Vancouver to Whistler, hit the Sea-to-Sky Highway 99 up north to the town of Squamish.
Our first stop to brunch
We stopped at Fergie’s café that is in Squamish which is pet friendly and a very nice spot to eat and grab a cup of coffee to relax from the drive. Do not miss the little creek behind the restaurant, lovely place to chill and even cheer for those rafting adventurers that pass along the river.
Shannon Falls
After having something to eat we stopped at the Shannon Falls Provincial Park, which is pet friendly and a very easy hike only 30 minutes. For me it was very important to find easy pet friendly hikes as I have 2 seniors that eventually have to be carried up, so we all enjoy the ride.
Pet-Friendly Hotel
We arrived around 5 pm to our hotel, we stayed at “The Pinnacle”, which is right in the entrance of Whistler Village, we loved the location and the fact that is dog friendly is the best. Our room included a small kitchenette and a balcony, we really didn’t need more.
Whistler Village
After settling we headed to the Village to find something to eat for dinner and enjoy the rest on the night.
If you only have one day, I suggest to wake up early, leave the hotel and head back to Vancouver with a couple of nice stops on the way; if you have more time stay for 2 nights and enjoy Whistler a bit more.
Near Whistler:
Spa Day at Scandinave Spa
If you want to relax and have an amazing experience I totally suggest going to this place, you don’t need to make a reservation (actually is even cheaper not to make rsvp, here’s the website)

Take a Zip Line tour
There’s plenty of companies that offer zip line tours they cost around 170 CAD per person, or take a good hike to Garibaldi Lake, Joffre Lakes or Chekamus Lake. Note that this are not dog friendly hikes and you might need a day pass to enter.
Must-stops along the way:
Whistle Train wreck hike.
This hike even though it’s super easy as well it is longer that the rest, it’ll take you around one hour, so if you have senior doggos like me, you’ve got to consider the challenge. But overall is a very nice walk, and is on-leash dog friendly.
Brandywine Falls.
Another pet friendly and easy hike only 30 minutes with minimal elevation gain, perfect for the whole family.
Downtown Squamish
After this we stopped to have something to eat again in Squamish, but this time in the downtown area where you can find so many nice spots with the amazing Stawamus Chief mountain view. It’s a good way to finish your trip now from Whistler to Vancouver.
