Must-visit landmarks in South Korea. I don’t know you guys but I’m all in with everything related to Hallyu Wave or best known as Korean Pop culture. From K-pop to K-dramas, this cultural phenomenon has definitely sparked tons of interest in Korean language, fashion and of course tourism.

That is why I believe traveling to South Korea is a great choice for discovering a unique blend of tradition, modernity and of course delicious cuisine.

That is why here are some must-visit landmarks if you’re planning to go around one week to South Korean starting from Seoul and nearby cities, along with some information on important spots, traditions, currency, language, and popular Korean dishes.

Seoul: the vibrant capital city of South Korea.

 

You’ve got to start your trip in Seoul. Here are the top places you can’t miss from this city.

 

Visit Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest and most iconic palace in Seoul, known for its stunning architecture and beautiful gardens.

Explore Bukchon Hanok Village, a traditional Korean village with well-preserved hanok (traditional houses). This place is filled with amazing “Instagramable” spots.

TIP: If you want to make this an even more magical experience, you can rent a “hanbok” the national dress of Korea. And if you are in doubt as to whether this could be perceived offensively or wrongly, don’t worry as it is not only the right thing to do, but it is even promoted as part of the Korean cultural experience for both women and men!

You will find many little stores where you can rent the outfit, as well as accessories to make you look even more original.

Wander through Insadong, a lively neighborhood known for its traditional tea houses, antique shops, and art galleries.

 

Try some of these popular Korean dishes like bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables and meat), bulgogi (marinated beef), and samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly).

Day trip to Suwon

 

Take a day trip to Suwon, located just outside Seoul. Visit Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its impressive walls and unique architectural features.

 

Explore the Korean Folk Village, an open-air museum that showcases traditional Korean culture, buildings, and performances.  Do not miss Suwon’s local specialty, dak galbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), and Suwon-style beef galbi.

Travel to Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city

 

Busan is known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant atmosphere.

You’ve got to visit Gamcheon Culture Village, a colorful hillside village filled with art installations and murals.

Explore the bustling Jagalchi Fish Market, one of Korea’s largest seafood markets. Relax at Haeundae Beach and catch a sunset view from the famous Gwangan Bridge.

 

Don’t miss out on Busan’s famous dishes, such as dwaeji-gukbap (pork soup with rice), milmyeon (spicy wheat noodles), and ssiat hotteok (sweet stuffed pancakes).
