How to Spend One Day in Orizaba: An Express Roadtrip Guide
A Stop Worth Making on Your Roadtrip
If you’re planning a roadtrip in Mexico and wondering how to spend one day in Orizaba, let me share my experience. We arrived late at night, under heavy rain, and only had time for dinner. Luckily, we found a lovely terrace with views of the cathedral, lit beautifully against the rainy backdrop. It was the perfect welcome to this Pueblo Mágico.
The next morning, we started our day at Fidelio, a cozy dog-friendly restaurant that I absolutely loved. The food was delicious, the atmosphere warm, and the best part—you can enjoy it with your furry friend.

Exploring the Heart of Orizaba
After breakfast, we visited the canal area, where there’s a small animal reserve with tigers, birds, and other exotic species. To be honest, it left me with mixed feelings—the enclosures were small, and some animals looked neglected.

So we decided to continue exploring the city streets instead. Orizaba’s downtown is full of color, lined with charming local shops and vibrant facades. We paused in front of the Gran Café de Orizaba, soaking in the slow pace of the town, before heading to the stunning Palacio de Hierro.

Right there we spotted the famous tourist train called El Chipi Chipi 🚂—honestly one of the cutest highlights of the visit!
A Pueblo Mágico Full of Charm
One of the most beautiful stops was the Cathedral of Orizaba, not only gorgeous inside but surrounded by the quintessential atmosphere you expect from a Mexican Pueblo Mágico. Just a short walk away, we admired the Ignacio de la Llave Theater, a perfect spot for photos and to appreciate local architecture.
As we were heading back to the car, we caught a glimpse of the Orizaba Cable Car gliding across the city. We didn’t have time to ride it, but it’s high on my list for next time.
Is One Day in Orizaba Worth It?
The answer is yes. Orizaba is colorful, historic, and packed with little gems. Even though my visit was short, it gave me more than enough reasons to want to return.
