Quick Travel Guide: Cholula, Puebla
Top things to do, eat and see in Cholula.
I’m finally in Puebla, one of the richest states in culture, gastronomy and architecture of my country, Mexico and 5 minutes away is Cholula!
It’s the oldest city in America and its capital is considered a World Heritage site designated by UNESCO. Puebla has 7 magical villages and has endless objects considered cultural heritage.
This city has been populated continuously since its inception, and is one of the reasons why its people are most hospitable when it comes to show travelers their beautiful state.
Don’t miss other beautiful towns in Mexico to visit.
Visit Cholula
One of the especially magical places of Puebla is Cholula which means “water that falls in the place of escape” in Nahuatl. It is a city where culture and fun are mixed.
We can spend days amazed with views of the volcano Popocatepetl or discover the largest pyramid in the world, called Tlachihuatépetl, which means “Hill made of Earth” or “Hill made by hand” to reach the top where you can find the sanctuary of our Lady of the Remedies.
It is also worth visiting the 365 churches that represent each day of the year. Cholula is a city full of attractions of all kinds and even one of the main university sites of the Republic.
The best food in town
And we could not leave out the delicious pueblan food, a fusion between the culinary tradition of pre-Hispanic origin and the Spanish, French and Arab cuisines.
Who is able to refuse a few chiles in Nogada, or a delicious mole poblano? And not to mention the classic Cemitas poblanas that you can find in every corner.
However, I stumbled upon a very special place called Pachamama, which specializes in making pulque and different delicious poblano dishes.
Some of the things you can find to eat in Cholula are these delicacies: chalupas, mole, malotes… delicious! Ahhh! And the famous Pasita, this unique liquor of Puebla, cheers!
