Visit Kinkaku-ji the Golden Pavilion Temple in Kyoto.
Kinkaku-ji, Kyoto, Japan.
Table of Contents
The temple Kinkaku-ji or Golden Pavilion is one of the most beautiful temples for me in Kyoto, and one of the most visited.
Kinkaku-ji is a Zen temple that is north of Kyoto, its official name is Rokoun-ji (but is better known as golden Pavilion) and what makes visitors wonder is that its external walls are covered with gold leaf.
And because of its spectacular architecture, Kinkaku-ji became World heritage by UNESCO from 1994 and Historical Monument of the old Kyoto.
When you enter you can see the Kyoko-Chi Pond (water mirror). This place was built as a resting villa of the “Shogun” Ashikaga Yoshimitsu.
Today this Golden Pavilion Temple is a “Shariden” which is a place where the relics of Buddha are kept.
It is an experience to walk through the garden of this temple until you reach the residence of the main monk, and at the end a tea house where you can buy some souvenir.
